Resources of Unique Genes from Grapevine (Vitis vinifera)

The offered 13684 sequenced gene clusters of Grapevine (Vitis vinifera) gene resources were tested in February 2005 and compared with 13684 gene clusters of TIGR (USA) by sequence alignments by the RZPD (=German resource center for genome research). The results showed that 3789 sequences from VitiGen are unique. Thus, more than 30% of all existing Grapevine (Vitis vinifera) gene information is exclusively available in this resource pool. The gene resources provided here are valuable for the Identi fication of genes for pathway design with the intention to produce

Unsaturated fatty acids
Antioxidants
Flavours
Pigments for Food Colourings
Wood

or conferring new phenotypes to GMO’s in molecular breeding like

And many more

In addition, the genes are of extraordinary value for expression analysis for the generation of MicroArrays. Another high value of the complementary gene information is variability and polymorphism for identity testings, origin and pedigree analysis for research.
